Heathfields skatepark has been revamped and is all good looking once again. To celebrate there is an official opening this Saturday, 12th December from 11am to 2pm. there hasn't been a price for entry given but take some money just in case.

Crowborough skatepark as of Tuesday 8th December. Construction has started for the change over from plastic to concrete and looks like it is all happening quicker than we thought. Thanks to Stuart Ladd we are now a constitution and an account has been set up for the money raised by people in order to create Tony Croft's memorial plaque which will be put in place at the skatepark.

Mini Ramp Plans

Here are the plans for the new mini ramp of year 1. Unfortunately it will not be built in time for our skate comp but work will start on the 20th of July and it will take about three weeks to complete, ready for summer.

The Skate Comp is on Saturday 18th July - ramps open @ 4pm & comp starts @ 5pm.

Monday 1st June at 7pm is a meeting discussing the quotes given to us by the 3 contractors as well as the issue of how the mini ramp will be positioned and other ideas.

Cuckfield Skatepark

On Sunday 8th March we visited Cuckfield's recently built bowl after Dave Foot showed us pictures of it from the Gravity Park's brochure. The feel to it, because it was concrete, was very smooth and glossy and was a dream to skate. In the deep part of the bowl the transition was pretty much perfect and the height of the bowl was a nice size of about 5.5 ft. The coping was flush with the concrete in all sections and was easy to get on and off without serious struggle.

The one thing we all decided on was that the deep bowl should have been used the whole way through instead of the small section flowing into the bigger. We felt that the little mini ramp before the bowl was wasted and didn't really need to be there. A same sized bowl/mini the whole way through would be better used and gives more space to move around.

There are 3 ledges positioned at the mouth of the mini and serve mostly as seats to skaters. The one directly in the middle, which leads into the mini ramp is a perfect height and is a good length for the size of the run up. The other two are off to the sides of the park and were of not much use. The park is surrounded by mud and there isn't enough room for run ups on all sides of the park, so if we did get something like this one we would definitely need more concreted ground around the outside.

The meeting on the Monday 26th was a success with all the councillors in favor to our plans for future developments. Elwyn had some amazing scale drawings of the mini ramp and existing skatepark which helped show the council what our ideas were on paper. Stuart had made a short presentation showing our 5 year plan and pictures of Crawley skatepark in all its glory including what hubba ledges, quarter pipes and fun boxes are.

Meeting At Town Hall

Monday 26th @ 7.30 Crowborough town hall a meeting is being held about the skatepark plans. This is the time we get to show the council our ideas and developments for the next 5 years and for them to decide the final amount of money towards the project.

Hope to see everyone who has been coming already to previous meetings and a few more people who are willing to help.

Ideas and Designs

Stuart Ladd and local skaters have been meeting up regularly and dicussing the issues about size and ramp designs at the skatepark in Goldsmiths, Crowborough. We have mapped out the next 5 years of future development, which includes a mini ramp in the first year (2009) and other construction ideas in the up and coming years.

The design is going to be concrete because of the low maintenance/noise and how smooth it is to ride. Concrete parks are becoming very popular with Crawley recently building their new park out of it along with Maidstone, Stoke on Trent and Dartford.

We hope "To have a skate park that is of unique quality and designed by the young people who actually use the skate park. To attract visitors to Crowborough, to generate more business for local industries and to build on success of the skateboard competitions."
